Box-spring – What is it and why you need one?
A box spring is required when your bed frame, if you have one, does not have enough slats or support. If your bed frame lacks support, you will need to place down a box spring before you can place down your mattress. The box is usually constructed with a wooden frame and has metal springs in the middle. Although the standard height for a box is 7″, box springs are available in different heights. At Sleep Masters Canada, we provide box springs from 2 to 9 inches in height. You can specify your preferred height in the notes box at checkout. So what are the main purposes of a box? Here are a few key benefits of a box:
1. Providing Height
One of the main reasons people use a box is to add height to their complete bed set. If the mattress is sitting too low, it can be difficult getting in and out of bed, especially for the elderly. The same applies if the bed set is too high also. If you are going to use a box spring, you need to make sure it is the correct height.
2. Absorbing Pressure
A box spring is also a must when your bed frame itself does not provide enough support to your mattress. A box will adequately absorb the pressure applied to it by the mattress, and make sure it provides a flat surface for the mattress to sit on.
3. Improved Airflow
The added height to the complete bed set as a result of using a box spring, also improves the airflow through the mattress.
When purchasing your box with a mattress, we make sure to provide a box from the same manufacturer as the mattress. For box spring only orders, we provide our very own box that we manufacture ourselves.
